CSV Import

Use CSV import when your data already lives in Sheets, Excel, Airtable exports, or another spreadsheet workflow.

Try to keep your file clean:

  • Use a single header row
  • Keep column names short and clear
  • Remove decorative totals or merged cells
  • Make sure numeric columns contain actual numbers

If your file is large, messy, or difficult to chart clearly, read Data Preparation before importing.

  1. Add a PressViz block.
  2. Choose the CSV import option.
  3. Upload a CSV file or pick one from the WordPress Media Library.
  4. Review the imported grid.
  5. Fix any mismatched column types if needed.
  6. Choose a chart type and confirm the preview.

PressViz includes validation to help avoid broken charts:

  • Oversized CSV files may be blocked
  • Incompatible chart/data combinations are flagged
  • Formula-like values can trigger CSV injection warnings
  • Dates should use a consistent format in one column
  • Avoid mixed text and numbers in the same metric column
  • If a chart type fails, switch to a simpler type first and confirm the data structure
  • If the file feels too dense, reduce rows, columns, or categories before upload
