CSV Import
Use CSV import when your data already lives in Sheets, Excel, Airtable exports, or another spreadsheet workflow.
Before you import
Section titled “Before you import”Try to keep your file clean:
- Use a single header row
- Keep column names short and clear
- Remove decorative totals or merged cells
- Make sure numeric columns contain actual numbers
If your file is large, messy, or difficult to chart clearly, read Data Preparation before importing.
Import flow
Section titled “Import flow”- Add a PressViz block.
- Choose the CSV import option.
- Upload a CSV file or pick one from the WordPress Media Library.
- Review the imported grid.
- Fix any mismatched column types if needed.
- Choose a chart type and confirm the preview.
Validation and safety
Section titled “Validation and safety”PressViz includes validation to help avoid broken charts:
- Oversized CSV files may be blocked
- Incompatible chart/data combinations are flagged
- Formula-like values can trigger CSV injection warnings
Tips for smoother imports
Section titled “Tips for smoother imports”- Dates should use a consistent format in one column
- Avoid mixed text and numbers in the same metric column
- If a chart type fails, switch to a simpler type first and confirm the data structure
- If the file feels too dense, reduce rows, columns, or categories before upload
